The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition Remake

An all time adventure classic The Secret of Monkey Island is all revamped and polished up for the modern day by the legendary Lucasarts.  One of my all time favorite adventure games Monkey Island had just about everything going for it at the time, funny scripts, great graphics and the perfect balance of difficulty and reward.  Well Lucasarts has been hard at work it seems on crafting a new updated version of the classic with brand new graphics and a revamped engine, along with full audio dialogue.

You can check out the progress and the results so far over at the Lucasarts homepage here, where they have all manner of interactive stuff for you to try out.  For fans of the original be sure to check out the video on the site, because it talks in good detail about the process they used to bring the game up to date for a new audience.  One feature that is very cool is that they have included ‘a big red button’, what does it do i hear you ask?  Well it seems that while playing in the new version of Monkey Island you can hit the red button and the game instantly switches back to the old version!  Very cool and also shows they are not forgetting the original fans of the game, personally i cant wait for this and will be getting the new version on their direct download even though these recession laced times are hard for us cash strapped gamers, this is one purchase i cannot miss.
